Lawrence Dallaglio speaks to Front Row Hospitality about RWC 2015

Front Row Hospitality

In July, Front Row Hospitality caught up with England Rugby Legend Lawrence Dallaglio. Highlights of his glistening Rugby career include being a member of the inaugural World Cup Sevens-winning squad with England in 1993, being awarded England captaincy in the autumn of 1997, and being a key member of the 2003 England Grand Slam and World Cup-winning side, being the only player to play in every minute of England's World Cup campaign.

Since retiring from professional rugby in 2008, Lawrence has established a variety of business and commercial relationships. He is most recently the Founder Partner of BBH Sport, a new Sports Marketing Agency that he launched in 2014. Lawrence also works with Rugby World Cup England 2015.

FRH: What makes the Rugby World Cup different from other trophies that teams compete for?
Quite simply it is best players in the world playing on the biggest stage of all.

FRH: What’s your favourite memory of your time playing for England?
From my first cap in 1995 to my very last in 2007 it was the greatest privilege to play for my country. My favourite memories are about the shared experiences with the players both on and off the pitch! Winning on your own is a great feeling but winning with a team is much more fun!

Front Row Group’s Richard Wallace was invited as a guest of Fawley Court to attend the annual Henley Royal Regatta, the oldest in the world and the only one to be under the patronage of HM The Queen. The Henley Regatta was first held in 1839 and has been held annually ever since, except during the two World Wars.

Race days are dedicated to a mix of chic entertainment and business networking, in a  quintessentially English setting. The Henley Royal Regatta starts at Temple Island, the old fishing lodge of Fawley Court. It then proceeds upstream past Fawley Court. The most desirable place on the river is precisely at Fawley, with its unrivalled views.

Many of the rowers are Olympians in training; others are ambitious school and university club rowers in pursuit of excellence. Fawley Court marked the end of the Regatta with a Closing Ball for the rowers and guests with spectacular fireworks on the Saturday night. The Fawley River Club's oarsmen were on hand to row guests up and down the longwater. Passing one of the floating cocktail bars added a jovial, unforgettable touch to the proceedings.

When should I send my child to the UK?

Front Row Hospitality

One of the questions we are frequently asked at Front Row Education is ‘when is the right time to send my child to school in the UK?’. Historically the answer was fairly simple in that senior schools for boys began at 13 and for girls at 11. This was always deemed to be an ideal transition point. During recent years the education system has changed slightly, not least with many leading public school offering coeducational schooling now with boys and girls starting at 13, following their Common Entrance exams and at Front Row Education we have seen a significant change in the trend with senior schools now advising an ideal move to a UK prep school by 10 or 11 where possible.

Front Row Hospitality

What is a prep school? A preparatory school ‘prepares’ children for their senior school, academically and in terms of sports, cultural assimilation and encouraging independence. Generally educating children from 7 until 13, Prep schools are nurturing schools where children are exposed to high academic standards whilst also enjoying an array of extra curricular experiences that will encourage children to develop as rounded individuals. Senior schools are very clear in their preference for children who have been through this preparatory system, as these children understand the expectations of such schools and the style of education that such schooling affords.

Clearly senior schools will still take students who apply from other schooling systems, particularly when they are international students moving to the UK but it is advice worth bearing in mind when considering the process of school transfer.

Front Row Education work with families to advise on educational options including how to find the right school for a school placement and private residential tutoring recruitment.

Creative Giant Benefits from Front Row Leadership

Front Row Hospitality

At the end of June, Front Row Leadership’s Sean Fitzpatrick was invited to run a workshop in conjunction with Andy Hurst of Shirlaws Group for the executive team at a leading creative company in London. The workshop was held offsite over two days and had just 10 delegates. Although already a successful business, the company had some work to do both commercially and culturally. The workshop was an opportunity for the participants to build communication and leadership skills within the team, and to build focus, commitment and a hardworking ethic.

The workshop enabled the delegates to develop a Vision of a High Performance team, and co-create a strategy to achieve that Vision, in order to achieve great results for their company.

The weather may have been wet but London was awash with activity as over 30,000 excited runners took to the closed streets of central London for the British 10k. Among those pounding the pavements were a group of 50 runners from Mercedez Benz UK, who raised money for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Youngsters from the Laureus-supported project Urban Stars also participated in the race, many of whom were running for the first time, giving them an excellent opportunity to participate in a large-scale event.

A group of women also partnered with the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation and #ThisGirlCan, raising awareness and funds helping young women around the world participate in sport.

For further information on how you can help support #TeamSportforGood in future events, visit the Events Page.
